Impact Analyst

What we’re looking for:


Nonprofits, and the millions who donate time and money to support them, seek to change the world for the better — to have an impact. Yet very little information is available on the actual effect nonprofits are actually having on the outcomes of their beneficiaries. In this information vacuum, donors are unable to find the nonprofits that do the most good with their dollars, collectively losing out on thousands or millions of lives that could have been saved or improved.


Under the Impact & Results beacon of the Encompass Ratings System, donors can now find estimates of the impact and cost-effectiveness of hundreds of service-delivery charities that are creating real change in areas as diverse as global poverty, homelessness and climate change.


Charity Navigator now seeks a talented analyst to join the Impact Unit. As Impact Analyst, you will expand our impact rating methodology and scale up our impact ratings to reach vastly more nonprofits and cause areas. This will be a 2-year term limited position. 


In this role, you will: 


Develop methodology for impact analysis:

  • Conduct literature reviews on the effectiveness of a wide variety of interventions
  • Manipulate and apply data derived from research studies and third-party datasets
  • Design methodologies for estimating impact and rating the cost-effectiveness of a wide variety of interventions
  • Collaborate with our engineering team to develop the Impact Rating Tool, a portal for collecting nonprofit impact data and producing impact ratings
  • Solicit information and feedback form nonprofit leaders to better inform methodology design 


Produce impact ratings:

  • Meet the Impact Unit’s ratings production targets
  • Help configure and create data collection and analysis dashboards using low code app solutions. 
  • Support the automation of  quality assurance of impact ratings, such as reviewing data submitted by nonprofits and creating and using exception reports. 
  • Support user-testing with nonprofits
  • Create modifications to Impact ratings platform to incorporate new program types
  • Support product development of the Impact Rating Tool
  • Communicate with nonprofit leaders to answer questions about the data entry process and identify or clarify issues with data entry

Contribute to other Impact Unit functions

  • Collaborate with team members to advance the development of the Impact & Results beacon
  • Support efforts to understand and communicate Charity Navigator’s own impact


What you’ll need to succeed in this role: 



  • Bachelor’s degree in economics or other social science
  • Some experience with survey design and  using online data collection platform solutions such as survey monkey, Kobo, or  and other low code apps such as
  • Foundational knowledge of research methods and statistics
  • Excellent analytical reasoning skills, quantitative and qualitative
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to self-direct work
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Adaptability to meet dynamic needs of the Impact Unit
  • English fluency



  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation at a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI or another reporting platform. 
  • Some experience building and administering low code online solutions systems. 
  • Passion for social impact


Compensation and Benefits: 

  • 2-year grant-funded position with the possibility of employment after the grant completion date 
  • Hiring Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
